Saying Goodbye to a Friend….

Hello Lovelies,

Saying goodbye is never easy, regardless of whether it's a momentary goodbye or an everlasting goodbye.  Sadly, I'm here to write about one of the saddest moments of my life.  Last Thursday, my beloved cat, Tinks, passed away.  Tinks, whose real name was once Princess was the greatest cat a person could ask for.  In fact, Tinks was more than a cat or a pet, she was my first friend and honestly one of the few that I could always count on.

I knew this moment was bound to come sooner rather than later but I always assumed this wouldn't of happened to my Tinks.  My Tinks had been through so much in her 22 years of life.  Funny thing about Tinks is we were never really sure how old she actually was.  See when we actually found Tinks, or should I say when Tinks found us, we assumed she was a kitten because she was so small.  My family and I had just moved to the town we still live in and it was a very stormy night.  My dad had driven his Corvette through a flood and parked the car in the detached garage.  Normally, these facts wouldn't be really important but all those facts lead to Tinks stumbling across our paths.  Through, some divine intervention my dads car had caught on fire and the garage was quickly going up in flames.  Tinks, or the little stray black cat was in the neighborhood and decided to alert us that the garage was on fire.  For being such a small cat she really had a set of pipes on her.  She meowed loudly enough that my dad got so annoyed with her that he went outside to try and get rid of this "annoying" cat.  Once my dad saw the fire, the annoying cat was quickly forgotten.  After some time, the fire was extinguished with minimal damage done to the car and the garage, my dad decided he would reward this cat with some tuna fish as a thank you for saving my family countless dollars.  This was the moment that Tinks decided she was going to stay with us and look after us.

I knew for some time that Tinks wasn't doing to well but I chose to ignore the fact that this could be my last moments with her.  I made sure that everyday I told her how much I loved her, just in case it was the last time I saw her.  However, I never thought Tinks would have died while I wasn't near her.  I've always heard that cats in the wild tend to go and hide when they are about to die because they don't want to burden their families.  Tinks is no different.  She waited until myself and my family went away on vacation.  I had heard she wasn't eating but I never expected the phone call saying that she died to have happened 4 days after I hugged and said "see you later!" It's been a week since she passed and I'm still struggling with feeling guilty because I wasn't there for her in her final moments.  I know for a fact I wouldn't of been able to handle that moment, but at least I would have gotten to say goodbye one last time.  I also would have told her how much she meant to me.  She was the only pet I've ever had and honestly I couldn't have asked for a better pet! She was purrfect, and I'm surely going to miss her.

As I write this I'd be lying if I didn't mention the fact that I am BALLING MY EYES OUT.  Today, was my first day home since she passed and I keep expecting her to jump up on my bed and snuggle with me.  Or when I was standing in the kitchen I kept looking down the hall waiting for her to come running down the hallway.  Not seeing her waiting on my bed when I got home broke my heart.  I'm no longer going to have her annoying little butt trying to back her butt into my lap trying to lay on my lap while I watched tv, or having her stick her poopoo paw into my food in hopes that she could steal some human food.  I'm really going to miss those moments, which is odd because whenever she did those things it would annoy the hell out of me, but now thinking about them just makes me smile.

Tinks da stinks, booboo kitty, evil shadow, stupid kitty, lala, tinkers stinkers, and most importantly Princess, I loved every moment we spent together.  You were truly the greatest gift i never asked for.   You set the precedent for all my future pets, and sadly I know that they will never measure up to you!

The last picture and moments spent with Tinks

22 years of friendship…. Thank you so much Tinks for always being there for me.  I can't believe you're gone but I know you're in a better place.  I know this isn't goodbye it's a see you later!

Must Watch: Blackfish

Hello Lovelies,

Ok, so I literally just finished one of the best documentaries I have ever seen in my life, Blackfish.  Blackfish, is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and it chronicles what a horrible life killer whales lead in captivity.  From wrangling orcas away from their families in the wild, to keeping them in pens, Blackfish shows just how inhuman these whales are treated for entertainment purposes.

Now, I like many of you have visited Sea World.  I was always amazed by how amazing these creatures really were.  I even envisioned myself one day wanting to be one of the trainers.  However, after watching this documentary I realized how misguided and how remorseful many of these trainer felt after leaving their jobs.  They talked about the many accidents that happened that often the fault landed on the trainer, not the whale.  After visiting Sea World numerous times, I never thought of the fact that these whales were forcibly removed from the wild and forced to swim in a "bathtub" for the rest of their lives.  I even thought that these animals loved what they were doing, that they seemed to enjoy the relationship they formed with their trainers.  What Blackfish succeeds in doing is showing the behind the scenes videos of some of these attacks or "accidents" as Sea World has claimed they are.  They show that these creatures are often fed up with being treated like show pony's who respond to verbal commands and are forced to perform day after day.

Video from youtube

The scene that devastated me was when they showed baby orcas, being forcibly removed from their moms.  Right before that scene was shown, orca experts explain how baby whales, calfs, tend to stay with their moms for most of their lives.  After the whales are removed from the moms, to go to other parks, the video shows the moms crying and screaming while searching for their baby.  It's heart breaking because they whales are unable to protect their young.

Overall, I will give the movie Blackfish 5 out 5 stars.  It is a must see, eye-opening experience about the mistreatment of these whales.  While myself and many of the trainers in this movie believe Sea World doesn't need to shut down completely, they do need to reevaluate how they treat, train, and obtain these beautiful creatures.  As one of the trainers put it, Sea World has single handily open many people's lives to the world of marine biology and created a sense of intrigue into the mysterious world of the ocean.  The next time I see an orca, I hope it's on a whale watching tour on the West coast where I can admire these creatures in their natural habitat, where they should be!

"It's Just A Bad Day, Not A Bad Life"

From Pinterest
Hello Lovelies!!

So as you can see by the title of this post, I've had a bad day.  But if we're being 100% honest, I've had a series of bad days.  Truthfully this week has just not been one of my weeks.  As I write this I'm listening to All Time Low's song Weightless.  If you haven't heard the song or of All Time Low, I highly recommend them!! Weightless is pretty much my bad day anthem.  The song starts off a little off tempo then builds up to the chorus that becomes my bad day motto "maybe it's not my weekend, but it's gonna be my year!"

For me, positive thinking is not my strong point because I'm kind of a glass half empty kinda girl.  I'm not proud of that, and believe me I'm trying to re-evaluate my bad days and approach them differently.  Ever since I've been little I've stressed about the little things in life.  I was a perfectionist and hated anything that prevented me from accomplishing things exactly how I imagined.  As a mental reminder I've been wearing an Alex and Ani bracelet that says "It is what it is!" Those 5 words have honestly helped me realize that there are some things that I can't control and I can't make myself sick over worrying about every little detail.

With that being said I will outline how my bad week started:

On Sunday I was blamed for a mistake that wasn't actually my fault.  It all started when I made the mistake of assuming that my one boss had finished a task the day before and didn't double check that he did in fact do it. At the time, this little mistake didn't really bother me until I heard from another employee that my "boss" was talking poorly about me in front of other employees.  I've recently been promoted to a new position so I am still in the process of learning everything and unfortunately my one boss doesn't seem to understand that.  I had no problem with my boss pointing out that maybe I should of double checked that fact but I'm a firm believer that if you have a problem with something I've done, then you need to tell me, not talk about me behind my back.  I'm not in high school anymore and I can assure you it's been a LONG time since my boss has been in high school.  Let's be adults and actually talk through situations, not gossip about each other.

Although Sunday wasn't a completely terrible day it didn't start my week on the good note I was expecting.  Monday was completely uneventful which was nice.  However, Tuesday was a complete NIGHTMARE.  I woke up and started my day like I normally do.  I was eating breakfast and checking my emails when I realized I had an email from my bank.  I randomly receive emails from my bank so I wasn't completely alarmed until I read the first sentence of the email.  I don't remember the exact wording but I believe the words went something like this "Dear Victoria, we've noticed some unusual activity on your credit card.  As a precaution, we've placed a hold on your account.  If you haven't made any purchases please contact us at xxx-xxx-xxxx right away!" I immediately panicked because I hadn't used the credit card recently so I had no idea what purchases they were talking about.  After calling the bank, I was told that someone had purchased $253 worth of products on Sears.com and had attempted to make a $650 purchase there when my account was flagged.  Now, not to be a brat but when she told me this I immediately told her I have never shopped at Sears, nor would I randomly buy nearly $1000 worth of stuff in one shopping trip.  At this point during the phone call I was shaking.  I had my credit card in my possession so I have no clue how someone had accessed my account information.  Luckily, because I had a Bank of America credit card I was protected from fraud and they quickly deleted my account information and will be reissuing my a new credit card.  (On a side note, I've been looking for something to curve my shopping addiction.  Although I would of liked something less severe, I think credit card fraud has scared me enough to stop shopping for awhile!).

I needed to calm down from this horrific event, so I began searching Pinterest for some quotes that will help me get through the bad day.  I found these three quotes that helped me realize that we all have bad days, but we can't let those bad days define us or destroy us.  I need to learn to let things go and not constantly stress over little things that I can't control.

I hope everyone else is having a better week than I am.  I'm determined to have an absolutely amazing week next week and hopefully I can update you on the great things that happen to me then!

Until Next Time....

Where have I been???? Updates and an apology.

Hello Lovelies,

I'm going to apologize for not posting anything for the last 6 months.  I have no idea why I haven't posted because I've done some great things in that time that I would of loved to share with you.  I'm going to try my best to blog once a week about what's been going on in my life (keyword try).

Update on my life: Currently, I'm a supervisor at a lovely retail store and am looking to move up within the company.  I'm in the process of redesigning/redecorating my room, which is taking me way longer than I expected.

So since my last post I talked about getting a haircut.  I've mentioned before I have a weird phobia of getting my haircut.  As a little kid I've had some horrific haircuts (thanks mom!) and that has translated to my adult life.  However, I've found an amazing salon and an amazing stylist who truly understands the texture of my hair and is willing to talk me off the ledge when I go in a say "I want short hair and I want to dye it darker, or maybe lighter?"

So after a brief panic attack and countless pictures later, we decided a lob was definitely the cut for me and in terms of color she told me I should embrace my natural highlights but maybe help speed them up a bit by adding some dimension.

While at the salon I got a little bored because I didn't realize the process getting "a few" subtle highlights would still take an hour so I decided to whip out the Ipad and take some photo Booth pictures.
The finished product, subtle highlights in the front to add some dimension and shorter hair. I've gotten my haircut a few times after this and I don't think it's even looked as good as this cut has been.  Now, this isn't because my hair stylist isn't talented, I believe I'm to blame for this because I made the mistake of telling her having so few layers has made my hair heavy and less curly (which truthfully is a gift from god because my natural hair isn't pretty).  The color has turned out better than I could of expected, as the summer progressed the color got more natural and looked ahhh-mazing.

Currently my hair looks like this... but as I look at old pictures I'm thinking the winter is calling for longer hair which I can curl and just love and style.
I love my hair this length but the problem with it is I feel like I'm limited in how I can style it.  I straighten it nearly everyday, and that's damaging to my hair.  When it's longer I can curl it and get maybe 2-3 days out of that style or I can put it in a top knot and go about my day.

Here are some old pictures of my long hair that I kind of miss...

I definitely think the shorter style makes me look more my age, since people always seem to think I'm like 12 (I know I should appreciate this now, but it gets annoying after awhile).  I'm slowly growing out my lob but I know once spring rolls around I'll want shorter hair again.  Ugh, the struggles of being a girl.

Moving on from haircuts, I was fortunate enough to go to Florida for 12 days in May and have just gotten back from a weekend trip to Chicago.  I'll write some posts about those trips at a later date (probably right after I finish this one!) because there is just too much to share.

I've mentioned earlier that I've been SLOWLY redecorating my room.  The keyword in that sentence is slowly.  Truthfully I had an image of what I wanted in my head and it's difficult to find those pieces, in my price range, which is basically as close to free as possible.  The room is almost complete but I just need a few more accent pieces to add some color into my room.  I'm going to hold off on pictures until I can do a full post on everything that I've done.

So to wrap up, I'm hoping to update this blog once a week on the progress of my room, what I've been up to, and basically what I've bought because let's face it, once a shopaholic always a shopaholic!!!!
I've bought some great pieces recently and I can't wait to share 6 months worth of shopping!!!!!

Until next time!

What I've Been Up To

Hello Lovelies...

Long time no talk. In my defense I've been away for the past week because I've been away for work since Monday.  This was the first trip that I didn't bring my laptop with me so that made blogging virtually impossible.  What also didn't help was the fact that I was working 4am-1pm (if not later) every single day.  Now, you maybe asking "Tori why did you have to work at 4am?" What a great question... I was working that early because I was helping the company I work for concept store with their Spring rollout.  A concept store for those who don't know if often the flagship store where everything is tried out before it goes national.  So in this store our job was to get all of the new product and set it on the floor.  It was a great experience because I got to work one on one with people from the corporate offices.  Although, I did not enjoy being at work at 4am everyday I did enjoy the time there and hope to do it again in the future.

Now, today I went to go see Silver Linings Playbook starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.  I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie but I enjoyed every second of the movie.  It had a dark sense of humor to it but I actually enjoyed that.  The plot of the movie follows Pat (Bradley Cooper) who just recently spent the last couple of months in a mental institution after nearly beating a man to death.  Pat is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his marriage is crumbling and also struggling to come to grips that he is bipolar.  Honestly, I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if Bradley Cooper could pull off the seriousness that this role needed.  I will adamantly admit that he was      fantastic in this role, in fact at times I felt like he had a bipolar disorder.  I found myself rooting for him and would wince when he relapsed or would get in trouble because of his outburst.  One thing that was great about the movie was his optimism.  Throughout the whole movie he maintained the fact that everyone had a silver lining that they were destined to achieve but they needed to think positively to achieve it.  Robert De Niro was amazing in this movie even though he wasn't in it as much as other characters were.  Jennifer Lawrence played her role well and she does deserve some kind of recognition for this role as does Bradley Cooper.

I'm still considering doing the 30x30 challenge I just haven't had the time to really sit down and figure out what pieces I'd want to include.

Until next time!!!

Birthday Wishes and Christmas Dreams...

Hello all,

Long time no blogging but lately I haven't been very creative with my outfits so I haven't been posting.  Also, I was going to post about the horrific school shooting in Newton but I couldn't gather all my thoughts into coherent sentences.

So, today is Christmas Eve, which means tomorrow is my BIRTHDAY!!! Yes, I know, you think having a christmas birthday sucks and I would have to agree with you.  However, in all honestly I have never experienced what having a birthday on another day feels like.  The one thing I hate about having a Christmas birthday is I always get asked "Do you get less presents because your birthday is on Christmas?" Without fail within a few minutes of people knowing when my birthday is this is the first question I get asked.  To which I respond, "If anything I get way more presents then I deserve!"

When I first started this blog I talked about how I needed a new perspective and needed to make a change in my life.  I left my retail job for another retail job in hopes that it would be better.  When I graduated college I had zero desire to ever want to work in retail again but that was until I found my current job.  I work with people who are nice and I actually enjoy being around.  Also, the management team understands that I am interested in learning new aspects of the job and are willing to train me.  Today, after they bought me a delicious cake for my birthday, they gifted me with a lovely surprise.  They offered me an opportunity to expand my responsibilities within the store.  They understand what I want and are willing to invest in my future.  Although it's only been a few months there I've enjoyed every moment I've spent there and am thankful for the opportunity.  My only regret is that I didn't leave my previous job and come to this one sooner.

I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas or whatever holiday you may celebrate.  May Santa bring you everything you may want and need.

Where has the time gone

Hello Lovelies,

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my lovely grandmothers passing.  My grandma was an incredible woman and I miss her everyday.  When my grandmother passed, it taught me to take advantage of each and every moment and live for the moment.  There were so many things I would have loved to have said to my grandmother but I never got the chance.

A picture of my grandmother from 1985

Recently, I was talking to one of my coworkers and we were talking about death.  Both her and I had different experiences with death.  Her father had a long battle with cancer and knew how long her father was going to live.  I unfortunately didn't have that luxury.  I remember the morning of November 21, 2010 like it yesterday.  I had gone to an amazing All Time Low concert the night before and stayed up really late talking to my friend.  When I woke the next morning I had 10 missed call from my mom and my house phone.  I instantly knew something was wrong.  I listened to the voicemail on my phone and could tell that my mom was upset in the message.  I tried calling my mom but she didn't answer so I called my house phone.  My dad picked up the phone and asked me if I had talked to my mom.  I told him no and he had to break the news to me that my grandmother had died.  I can honestly say that was the worst moment in my life.  I had seen my grandmother only 2 days prior and she was completely fine.  I couldn't believe she was gone.  When I had said goodbye to her, I didn't think that was the last time I would ever talk to her or even hear her voice.  My coworker and I have different views on death and which way is better.  Clearly, I would have liked to have known that my grandmother was going to pass and I would of had the opportunity to tell her how much I love her and how much she means to me.  Although, I didn't get the chance to tell her that, I hope that she's watching me from heaven and knows how much she inspires me everyday!

*Any one who is reading this needs to know that this is a deeply personal post and it is really hard for me to write this.  I'm actually bawling my eyes out while I'm writing this because I've bottled up my emotions about this for so long.  I miss my grandmother everyday but know her spirit is her with me.

My grandmother's high school yearbook picture.  I actually took this picture and have it displayed in my room

Owls, owls, owls

Hello Lovelies,

So anyone that knows me knows I am O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D with owls.  I believe I have fallen in love with owls before they were super popular and I want to share the reason why I am in love with these little birds.  First, to be completely honest I hate birds, they freak me out but ever since a little Eastern Screech Owl, who I lovingly nicknamed Earle, landed in my neighbors tree I've fallen in love with owls.  Earle, has been living in a dead tree off and on for the last 3 years.  He randomly appears in the Fall and disappears right before the end of the spring.  Now, I'm not a professional photographer in the slightest but I absolutely love taking pictures of this little guy.  Here is a collection of the photos I've taken through the years of Earle!

Earle in his little tree branch

The funny thing about Earle is you never think his eyes are open.  I know he's always watching me because I can tell he subtly moves his head to follow me but his eyes always look closed.

My favorite picture of Earle ever.  This was probably one of the first pictures I've ever taken of him.

So as you can see, Earle has inspired my obsession with owls and now I literally have owls on everything, which I love.  I even have a few owl shirts, which is slightly embarrassing to admit.

M.I.A.... Missing in Action

Hello Lovelies,

Sorry I've been MIA lately but I've been super busy with work and just haven't had the motivation or inspiration to update blog.  I figured since my most popular post seem to focus on my shopping addiction I'd fill my lovely readers on what my shopping compulsion has lead me to buy.

I went a little crazy at the Gap because I got a coupon for 50% off one item and 40% off the rest of my items.  I had to take advantage of this because I no longer can use my employee discount, this was as close as it was going to get.  So the things I bought were:
This sweater was on sale for 29.99 and I got 40% off

I already have this sweater in the grey with neon pink but when I saw this one was $11 I had to have it

Cute plaid oxford with a ruffle collar, it's playful and girly and so festive!

I love these fitted boyfriend shirts that the Gap has right now, I really think they look great on all body types

This is a super cute and super comfy flannel dress

This sweater is super comfortable but I pretty much got this because navy and neon pink is my absolute favorite color combination!

Now onto J.Crew
I bought a beautiful chiffon black and white chevron scarf that I can't seem to find a picture online and I don't want to take a picture of it right now (but I'm positive I'll be wearing it with an outfit within the coming week). I bought two of the Merino Wool Tippi sweaters.  If you love J.Crew sweaters they are currently on a promotion for 25% off, which is a great deal for these amazing sweaters.

I bought this Biennial hobo for my mom for Christmas, partly because she liked it but because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BAG TOO

and I bought these shoes on clearance because I thought they would match my bag, I mean my moms bag perfectly

Now for some random work outfits of the day.  I need to get a new full length mirror in my room so I don't have to keep taking pictures in my bathroom.

The headband is from Nordstrom's BP, shirt from Loft, scarf from Banana Republic Factory, Jeans are from Urban Outfitters, Boots are Steve Madden Troopa Boots
Headband from Forever 21, Scarf from Express, sweater from Old Navy, wool pencil skirt J.Crew, and flats from Banana Republic.

As you can see I've been obsessed with head bands lately.  I've been pretty bored with my hair recently so I think I need to spice things up and change it up.

Well hopefully my next posts won't be too far off but if it is, I promise I'll have tons of items to haul

I am Jersey Strong

Hello lovelies,

This post isn't going to be like my normal posts, actually it's going to be a little darker and very depressing. As many of you know my home state, New Jersey, was devastated by Hurricane Sandy this past weekend. Although I do live relatively close to the shore, my town and my house were spared, thankfully. I wish I could say the same thing about the surrounding towns or even New Jersey as a whole. I've been without power since Monday so I haven't really gotten the chance to see all the destruction sandy caused. I'm using my iPhone to actually write this post because I'm one of those people who feels better when I voice how I'm feeling and I've been bottled up for too long.

My dad works for a local gas company in New Jersey and for the last couple of days he's been touring the devastation. Now my dad is not someone who shows much emotion but each night he's come home he's been so depressed and upset. He showed us some pictures of Union Beach and there was nothing left of the town. The only way he could describe it to us was to say it looked like a bomb had gone off. He said walking around he saw pictures lining the ground and people clothes thrown about. The pictures really are horrific because it shows that these poor people lost everything. I feel extremely guilty because the worst thing that happened to my home is that we lost power. We didn't loose our home, pictures, possessions, or cars. Yes, material things can be replaced but its a pain to do. They have been calling this storm "The storm of the century" and to me it doesn't feel like that because I have yet to see the full extent of what actually happened, and frankly I'm not sure I really want to.

What I did see is that Sea Bright, the place I spent most of my summers as a child is officially destroyed. I don't think Sea Bright will ever be the same. My lovely grandmother, who passed away almost 2 years ago, spent most of her life living in Sea Bright. She was always the crazy person who thought she could ride out a storm and would trudge through flood waters to get to her job at the bank. I am grateful that she did not have to see the town she loved destroyed. Seeing Sea Bright in this state would have broken her heart. It breaks my heart just thinking about it. Unfortunately, the house she owned is probably destroyed and will need to be demolished. It's painful to think about because I had so many memories in that house. Although, the Sea Bright I know and love has been destroyed, the memories I made there will forever be in my heart!

I have no doubt that New Jersey will bounce back from this terrible event. I remember years ago there was a shirt that said "new jersey: only the strong survive!" I believe that's true. Every resident who has called jersey home will bounce back from this. It may take a year, heck maybe even 5 years but we will rebuild and we will survive and we will be better then ever.

This storm has made me reflect and look at my life. If I lost everything in the storm, what would I have left. I probably would be upset that my iPad or my computer was ruined, which is pathetic. There are people out there that have no where to go. I now realize going shopping every weekend is not important. I need to stop caring about materialistic things and start caring about what really matters in life. I know I am only one person but I want to do everything in my power to help rebuild the place I call home!

A Week in Review... Interviews and New Jobs

Hello lovelies,

Well another interesting week has come and gone.  This week was filled with tons of highs and some lows, naturally.  This was my first official week at J. Crew and I absolutely love it there.  Sure, you probably think I'm on a new job high but I love the people I work with.  They're all super friendly (something I was missing at my other job) and actually want to work (which is shocking!!).  I'm still in the training phase so it's interesting to learn all the different aspects of the job, something I didn't get to do at my other job.  I actually like where I'm working which is a feeling I haven't felt in awhile, so it's very refreshing.

Now onto the big interview!!!!  Today, I had an interview at the organization I use to intern at.  I was excited for the interview until I had to actually go because then naturally my nerves kicked in.  I feel really comfortable at the organization and love the people I worked with but I'm afraid that my lack of experience may hold me back compared to the other applicants.  I believe the interview went well but there were definitely times where looking back I wished I said something different.  It was extremely intimidating to interview with the Executive Director of the organization, someone who is so influential and has done so much.  He had some tough question but he seemed to like some of my answers.  I hope that my past work with the organization will speak for itself and help me stand out compared to the other applicants.  Well, unfortunately we shall have to wait and see what happens?

Now for some inspiring quotes that I stumbled upon on pinterest......

Is it sad to admit that I kinda want a big girl job so I can dress up everyday and post pictures of my outfits on here?  Plus, a new big girl job means a new big girl wardrobe, which of course I'll post on here! I think it's a win win for everyone!
